objective • “EcoSPARK Lighting Solutions is dedicated to drastically reducing kWh consumption by providing, delivering and installing energy saving light bulbs to residents of condominiums and homeowners. Their goal is to protect the environment from toxic emissions caused by wasted electricity from unnecessary high-energy light bulbs.” With that kind of corporate mission statement my inner eco-warrior was thrilled to be a part of this project. As a designer I do my best to present clients with environmentally friendly options for packaging and promotional materials. More often than not their budget gets in the way of any green best intentions, but not in this case.
As per their aforementioned mission statement, EcoSPARK & I teamed up to create the most eco-friendly corporate identity possible. We started by selecting FSC certified 100% recycled paper for all the printed materials from the door hangers & flyers to the business cards and inspection forms. Next was to ensure the ink used to print these amazing materials also met our “green” standards. Each piece was printed using low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) inks, which assisted in minimizing our carbon footprint even more. In the end I feel that not only did we create a strong brand identity for EcoSpark, but we also developed marketing & support materials that reinforce their corporate mission, vision and values.
Even with all the special environmentally conscious materials we used here it didn’t break the bank. Printing costs came out only 13% above the not-so-eco-friendly options. It should be noted that these figures are from 2008, and today sustainable green printing options get more and more reasonable all the time. The earth is worth it.
